The Hudson Chapter of the Native Plant Society will host Hudson County’s largest native plant sale
The Hudson County Chapter of the Native Plant Society of New Jersey will hold its Fall Plant Sale on Saturday, October 1st from 10am to 2pm at the James J. Braddock Park/Nature’s Park Café & Eatery, 5 Lakeside Dr. Yes, North Bergen.
Two native plant nurseries, Toadshade Wildflower Farm and Pinelands Direct, will each offer a selection of native plants for sale. You can check their websites for information to arrange a pre-order at www.toadshade.com i www.pinelandsdirect.com.
From 2 to 3 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to attend the first live taping of the Native Plants Healthy Planet podcast with hosts Fran Chismar and Tom Knezick. They will talk with Dr. Randi Eckel, president of the Native Plant Society of New Jersey, about their favorite native plants. The event will take place inside the Cafe and Restaurant of the Natural Park. Tickets are free but seating is limited, so people are encouraged to register in advance at https://bit.ly/3SjSCi7.
The fall sale will also feature a demonstration by the Community Compost Company, a Spear Head Spade raffle and a live Latin jazz performance.
The birds of prey are back
Flat Rock Brook Nature Center returns to Riverview Park in Jersey City for a Birds of Prey Workshop on Saturday, October 1, from noon to 1 p.m.
Visitors can see a red-tailed hawk, American kestrel, two owls. The workshop will give details about each bird, including its behaviours, habitats, adaptations and conservation status. Each of the four species featured is native to New Jersey, and some even call Jersey City home.
The workshop is presented in partnership with the Riverview Neighborhood Association. Riverview Park is located at 1 Bowers St., Jersey City.
Street Fair in Secaucus
The Secaucus Street Fair returns in 2022 on Friday, September 30 from 6 to 11 p.m.; Saturday, October 1, from 2 to 11 p.m.; and Sunday, October 2, from noon to 6 p.m
The event will feature over 100 vendors along with live music, children’s entertainment and a variety of games and food.
Entry is free. The fair will be held at 121 Plaza Center & Front St., Secaucus.
The 7th annual Hudson County Fair returns to North Bergen
It’s going to be two great weekends when the 7th annual Hudson County Fair returns Friday, September 30th through Monday, October 10th in North Bergen.
Presented by Mayor Nicholas Sacco, Hudson County Commissioner Anthony Vanieri and the North Bergen Education Foundation, the fair will include carnival rides, games and food.
The fair opens at 6pm on weekdays, 2pm on weekends and takes place at James J. Braddock-North Hudson County Park, Bergen Line Ave., North Bergen.
Cultural Diversity Festival in Hamilton Park
JC Families’ 8th Annual Festival of Cultural Diversity will be held in conjunction with their Harvest Festival from 10 am to 2 pm, Saturday, October 1, at Hamilton Park in Jersey City.
A range of activities are planned for the whole family, including pumpkin painting, crafts, musical acts and food.
The Halloween fun begins at the Meadowlands Racetrack
The Meadowlands Racetrack’s all-ages fall festival, Track or Treat, returns on Thursday, October 6th and runs throughout the month of October.
This fun fall event features live entertainment and sideshows, carnival-style games, bounce houses, free racetrack rides, Oktoberfest with traditional favorites, and a pumpkin patch full of Halloween activities for kids and adults.
Other events include Haunt After Nine, when Track or Treat comes alive with roaming creatures, otherworldly characters and surprises around every corner for brave souls after 9pm.

Halloween Party at Liberty Science Center
A month-long Halloween party is planned at the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City, starting Saturday, October 1st from 10am to 5pm.
During the month of October, the Liberty Science Center will take a look at the spooky side of science. There will be an outdoor spider maze where you will learn about 10 species of spiders as you explore the trail. There’s also a giant outdoor pumpkin patch, a 3D movie about a haunted house, and some creepy crawly animals.
A Halloween-themed laser show and the Monsters of the Night Sky show can also be seen at the planetarium.
