North Bergen’s award-winning volleyball, tennis and music programs
Mayor Nicholas Sacco and Parks and Recreation Commissioner Hugo Cabrera hosted North Bergen’s annual dinner honoring participants in the township’s summer tennis, volleyball and music programs. The event was held on Tuesday, August 2 at the Recreation Center.
About 70 kids in grades 5-8 participated in the volleyball program this year, while nearly 50 kids ages 9-14 participated in the tennis court. The programs included instruction on how to play as well as recreational games throughout the summer. About 70 children from grades 4 to 8 participated in this year’s summer music camp. The program offered instruction to improve each participant’s instrumental skills.
Among those attending the dinner were Public Security Commissioner Allen Pascual and Finance and Finance Commissioner Julio Marenco, congratulating all the participants. All were treated to a meal, while participants received a medal for their participation in their respective programs.

A North Bergen man arrested on charges related to the 2019 murder
A North Bergen man has been arrested in connection with a deadly 2019 home invasion after perjuring himself during a related trial, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella announced.
Construction worker Dylan Rodriguez, 21, of 74th Street in North Bergen, was arrested on charges of felony murder; hinder apprehension; possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes; and conspiracy to commit, perjury and tampering with evidence.

“The Great Train Set” exhibit opens at Liberty Science Center
Liberty Science Center has announced the opening of “The Great Train Set” exhibit, which centers around a model railroad set based on the Lackawanna Railroad. The set was donated by John and Regina Scully, and the exhibit opens to the public on August 6.
North Bergen residents in serious condition after car crash
Authorities are investigating a crash in North Bergen that left two people in critical condition, according to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez. The motor vehicle collision with injuries occurred at the intersection of River Road and Bulls Ferry Road in North Bergen.

North Bergen hosts several parties for National Night Out
The streets of North Bergen were once again filled with revelers for National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2, with seven locations hosting huge events filled with a variety of activities, food and entertainment. Mayor Nicholas Sacco and township commissioners made the rounds of the seven parties, greeting residents, handing out gifts and holding raffles that included prizes such as bicycles, televisions, barbecue grills and gift certificates for restaurants and stores.
After going on hiatus for the past two years due to the pandemic, Night Out is back in full force this year, with huge crowds enjoying bounce houses, face painting, free burgers and hot dogs, DJs and more month. The event is designed to build relationships between the police and local communities in an informal and fun environment.
“The amount of work that goes into planning seven events simultaneously is a task that only the best and the department heads in North Bergen could tackle,” Sacco said. “I was very proud to see the amount of volunteers who came out last night to make sure the residents of the township had a wonderful night. I would like to thank all the local businesses, vendors, volunteers, city departments and everyone who came out to support. It was an amazing night and I know everyone had as much fun as we all did.”
The mayor and commissioners on the Night Out tour were joined by County Commissioner Anthony Vainieri, Assemblyman Pedro Mejia, Town Administrator Janet Castro, Acting Police Chief Robert Farley and many other town officials, employees and volunteers.
