SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Caddo Parish leaders are “taking it to the streets” with a new crime prevention program.
It is designed to promote physical fitness and reduce youth crime rates.
Thursday night (July 21) kicks off the first event at Galilee Baptist Church in Shreveport. The Taking it to the Streets program will include obstacle courses, bounce houses, sports, dance competitions and more. Drinks and snacks will be provided. Police officials will be on site for all events to make sure everyone is safe and having a good time.
Park leaders said they want to offer fun events and games in areas they call “play deserts,” hoping to get kids fit and away from crime.
“We want to appear for two hours, offer them fun and different activities. As you can see, we have a bounce house, face paint. We just want it to be fun for them for two hours and that’s how I said going into areas where there are no play areas where they can easily walk,” said Mary Murphy of Caddo Parks and Recreation.
Tonight’s event was the first of seven the organizations plan to host.
