@body copy:ISHPEMING — The 33rd Annual Labor Day Festival, set for Monday in Ishpeming, will offer a variety of activities for people to celebrate the national holiday.

A parade will begin at 11 a.m. and will travel along Euclides, Main and Division streets.

A picnic will be from noon to 4 pm at Lake Bancroft Park and the Cliffs Shaft Museum. The music will be provided by Adam Sawfox.

The festival is sponsored by the Marquette Alger Community Labor Council and the Upper Peninsula Regional Labor Federation, AFL-CIO.

UPRLF President Tony Ghiringhelli said this year’s theme is “Working”.

“We have a rich labor history at UP and across the country, and we seek to honor the people who fought for the rights we have today and continue to fight for working-class individuals and families.” Ghiringhelli said.

Paula Herbart, president of the Michigan Education Association, will speak, along with local labor leaders and politicians, she said.

Parade marshals will be Michael Thibault and Kathleen Carlson, both members of the Upper Peninsula Labor Hall of Fame.

Thibault was a founding member of the UPRLF and the first president of the federation.

Carlson was also a founding member of the UPRLF and president of Local Union 1613, American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.

Ghiringhelli said the festival will include games for children, including upgraded bounce houses.
