What else says summer like lobster and beer? On Saturday, August 6, the ‘Claws’ Flame and Beer Party takes over the Tropicana Field parking lot from 12 to 5 p.m. Hosted by the Saturday Morning Shoppe, the food and drink extravaganza takes place alongside the sprawling monthly market filled with local vendors.
Featuring local restaurants and food trucks, the edible portion of the event will serve up hot piles of crawfish, crab and more from some of the Bay Area’s best pots and purveyors. Plus, bar trucks and drink tents will be filling mugs with cold beer to help beat the heat. The entire event is family-friendly and pet-friendly, with free attendance for all.
On the market side of the day, the Saturday Morning Shoppe shopping and strolling experience showcases local artists, makers, shops and more. The festival takes place in Lot 4 of the Tropicana field parking area and is free to attend. Parking in the open spaces of the car park is also free, subject to availability. The festival and food market will also feature live music performances, line dancing, a teen market, bounce houses and even a kids’ zone. There will also be interactive arts and crafts stations. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair, kick back and enjoy free entertainment while eating, drinking and browsing.
2,000 backpacks full of school supplies are given away
In addition to the festival and food market, Saturday Morning Shoppe has partnered with Live Love St. Pete to provide free backpacks and school supplies to area children in need. Happening at the same time and place, the duo will be giving away 2,000 backpacks full of school supplies on Saturday, August 6th from 12pm to 5pm at Tropicana Field.
The draw is completely free, no registration required. The only condition is that backpacks are given out on a first-come, first-served basis, so they are only available while supplies last.
Saturday Morning Shoppe and its founder Renee Edwards held a similar raffle last year, during which they gave away 1,000 backpacks in less than three hours. Melody Proud, the founder of Live Love St. Pete, heard the news and pledged to donate an additional 1,000 backpacks this year with funds from the Live Love St. store. Pete focused on the community.
The Tampa Bay Rays have also stepped up to support area families and children in need by donating funds for another 300 backpacks filled with supplies.
